Located in north London, Defoe Road is a Victorian terrace house extension which draws a stark contrast with the existing building. We began by asking ourselves what the best architectural language would be to accentuate the existing character of the building.
We worked closely with our clients to carve out a language of materiality and form which reflected their personalities and lifestyles. Aiming to weave in subtle eccentricities that reflected their inclination for a little flair from time to time.
Moving through the space, additions to the existing house are made legible, with large windows framing the conservatory-style extension articulated with a circular skylight overhead. Green Crittall windows highlight key spaces and frame views to the outside, creating a rhythm to the composition, colour and materiality.
An over-arching continuity ties into the making of a resilient style while providing also moments for quirks amid domestic familiarity.
